Canada Reads 2013

It’s that time of year again! The exciting event that is the Canada Reads showdown is back. Year after year, deserving books get their moment in the Canada Reads spotlight and this year will be no different.

But, there’s a twist. After twelve seasons, there’s got to be a twist. This year our great country of Canada will be divided by location. The powers that be at Canada Reads have decided in 2012, we will divide our literary favourites into five categories:

British Columbia and Yukon
Prairies and North
Ontario
Quebec
Atlantic Provinces

The rules are simple:
The author must be originally from the region or have spent a substantial amount of time in that region that their novel is nominated to represent.
The book does not need to be set in the region that it represents. Books set in India can be nominated in Ontario, books set in England can be nominated in B.C., as long as the author calls, or has called, that region home.

We can’t wait to vote for our favourites! Visit the Canada Reads 2013 official page to find out how to cast your vote.

But first, to help jog your memory, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite regional books from across Canada. The first round of nominees will be revealed on Wednesday, Oct 24th, so get nominating!
