On Tuesday, July 17th, the @RandomHouseCA Twitter Team hosted a chat with Cheryl Strayed, author of the bestselling memoir, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. Using the hashtag #WILDchat, the conversation was a great opportunity for fans to ask Cheryl about how her feet healed and how she reacted when Oprah called her cell phone.
We had an outstanding number of participants drop by and say hello from Canada and the United States and we all learned some very interesting facts about Cheryl.
Did you know ?
- That she met her husband nine days after finishing her hike and felt like she had walked all that way just to meet him! How great is that?
- Wild began as an essay, but when Cheryl started started writing it, she realized it was much more and the memoir was born.
- Her advice to new hikers, “Wear boots that don’t hurt your feet! Also, remember to laugh when the going gets tough”.
- Oprah called Cheryl out of the blue on her cell phone to tell her that she loved Wild and it had inspired her to start her new Oprah 2.0 Book Club. Of course Cheryl immediately called her husband and jumped up and down with joy!
It was great fun and a wonderful opportunity for fans to chat directly with the talented and thought provoking Cheryl Strayed. Our thanks to everyone that came out on Twitter and participated.
Stay tuned to Random House of Canada’s Twitter Feed for future Twitter Chats.
