One Good Hustle by Billie Livingston
First things first, how great is the cover of Billie Livingston’s One Good Hustle? When an advanced reading copy landed on my desk a few months back, I took it home that weekend and spent a Sunday afternoon devouring it.
We’re introduced to sixteen year old Sammie who’s at a pivotal time in her life; a time when she’s trying to figure out what’s right and what’s wrong. These life obstacles become even more difficult because Sammie’s parents are hustlers and they have raised her in a world of crime and thieving.
After a hustle goes wrong, Sammie’s mother, Marlene, sinks into world of depression and her father, Sam, is provinces away and unable to help; although Sammie holds out hope that he’ll come back to fix everything. Caught in a world of chaos, this novel showcases two months of a young girl’s life in extremely adult situations.
Billie Livingston has written a wonderful piece of literature and One Good Hustle is a book that I’ve been raving about to bloggers and on social media channels for the last couple of months. Now that it’s in stores, I’ll be coming to find you at bookstores so I can physically put it in your hands. It’s a wonderful and captivating read that I know everyone is going to enjoy!
Check out what Wendy from a Cupcake and a Latte had to say about it in her review.
