Fiction Inspired by Real Life Events
A common trend in fiction writing is reading an author’s interpretation about how they perceive a real life relationship or event. These fictionalized interpretations open up a new way of thinking about people from our history. In Tanis Rideout’s debut novel, Above All Things she introduces you to the world of George Mallory, the famous English mountaineer and his wife Ruth Mallory.
I had the pleasure of getting to meet Tanis Rideout and got to listen about how Mount Everest and George Mallory have consumed her life for the past ten years. She became enthralled with understanding George Mallory’s reasoning for wanting to climb Everest. When she was researching his expeditions, she began reading beautiful letters between George and Ruth. That’s when she decided it would be create a fictional account of the love triangle between man, woman and Mount Everest.
Tanis Rideout’s passion and dedication in developing the relationship between George and Ruth Mallory is portrayed on every page of her lovely debut novel.
